Ephemeral Marks:

In this current body of work, Timothy is exploring the relationship between mark making and the limitations of time.Transient nature and what we leave behind has interested him for some time now. When we are young we think that we have all the time in the world. Only later do we discover that time is a very precious asset.
What do we leave behind when this experiment we call life is over? We meet people on our journey who influence us and who we leave an impression on. We all leave impressions behind, some small some big and even some monumental. But when he recently heard that Elvis is being forgotten by the young today, it made him think how momentarily immortality can be. And aren’t we all secretly striving for immorality, in some form or another? And let me spin this even further, if we continue to treat planet Earth the way we are today, then one day there will be no humanity.
And hence there will be no one who will remember any mark we made.

Biography / About:

“Out, out, brief candle!
Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage
And then is heard no more: it is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing.”

William Shakespeare

I was born in Morocco and raised half in England half in Germany. At the age of 22 I picked up a camera and after absolving an internship at the Pinewood Studios in London, I went on to study at the ICP ( International Center of Photography ) in New York. After various residencies in England, Scotland and Germany, I currently live in Hamburg.

My artistic development arises from an uprooting since I grew up in two worlds. In no world truly accepted ( in England I was German and vice versa) I started looking at my environment from a different angle. In my early years as a photographer, I depicted people in a disconnected manner from each other and from their surroundings. Later, I removed these individuals even further by leaving them out completely. The result would be somewhat empty and otherworldly. I had transferred my detachment to my observed environment and in return I was asking about its and my own meaning and existence.

As a working fashion photographer the depiction of disengaged people is hard to sell. Year after year my photography became a hybrid of what I wanted and what my clients wanted. Again I found myself in a situation where I was in two worlds. Since I had A-levels in art, I picked up a pencil again and begann going to life drawing classes.

A tragic loss made me rethink my position.

This is what I do now.
